Sash window refurbishment sits between an isolated repair and a full conservation restoration. It is often the right option where the original timber is fundamentally sound but the windows are stiff, draughty, poorly balanced or suffering from several age-related defects.
What can refurbishment include?
A programme can include easing painted sashes, replacing cords, checking pulleys and weights, local timber and sill repairs, putty and glazing repairs, preparation and external painting, plus discreet draught proofing.
Refurbishment or full restoration?
Refurbishment is appropriate when defects are widespread enough that a coordinated overhaul makes sense, but the window does not require extensive reconstruction. Our restoration service is better suited to windows requiring more involved conservation work.
Can refurbished windows be made warmer?
Yes. Draught proofing is often the first step. Depending on the building and window construction, secondary glazing or slimline double glazing may also be considered.
