DOUBLE GLAZED SASH WINDOW COST GUIDE
There are two very different ways to obtain double glazed sash windows: upgrade suitable existing joinery or install new timber sash and case windows. The right approach affects both cost and how much historic fabric is retained.
What determines the cost?
Costs vary with window size, pane pattern, glass specification, the condition and depth of existing sashes, glazing-bar profiles, access and finishing. If existing timber needs repair before glazing, that work must also be allowed for.
Can existing sash windows be double glazed?
Sometimes. Suitable windows may accept slimline heritage double glazing, but the sash dimensions, rebates and condition need assessed. Where altering original sashes would be inappropriate, secondary glazing may provide a more reversible improvement.
New double glazed sash windows
