There is no single price for repairing a traditional sash and case window because the work can range from a simple cord replacement to extensive timber repairs and full overhaul. The most useful way to budget is to understand what is actually included in the work rather than comparing headline prices alone.
What affects the cost of sash window repairs?
The main factors are the size and number of windows, access, the condition of the sashes and case, the amount of rotten timber, glazing condition, paint build-up and whether the window needs to be removed for workshop repairs. A window that looks poor externally may still contain a high proportion of sound original timber and be economical to repair.
Typical levels of work
Minor maintenance can include easing a sticking sash, renewing cords, adjusting weights, replacing fasteners or repairing loose putty. A more complete overhaul may include removing the sashes, servicing pulleys and weights, repairing localised decay and installing a discreet draught-proofing system.
